Redesign of Wielstraat and Sportlaan in Beneden-Leeuwen
We are going to redesign Wielstraat and Sportlaan in Beneden-Leeuwen. This is part of the'Levendig Leeuwen' (Lively Leeuwen) plan. This plan has been adopted by the municipal council.
The most important activities
A design has been created for Wielstraat and Sportlaan. We will do the following in both streets:
- we are replacing the pavement of the roadway
- we are installing a new sewer system for wastewater
- We are constructing an additional sewer specifically for rainwater.
- we create parking spaces
- we are creating more green spaces along the street
- we create road narrowings so that cars drive slower
Comments on draft
The design can be found at the bottom of this webpage among the downloadable files. Local residents were given the opportunity to respond to this design. We compiled a response document containing all the comments made by local residents and our response to them. We also included a number of frequently asked questions from residents in this document.
Based on these responses, we do not need to modify the design. We will also be implementing the design outdoors.
Sign up to disconnect!
We are installing a rainwater sewer in Wielstraat and Sportlaan. This will reduce nuisance during heavy rainfall. You can help too! You can do this by disconnecting your downspout from the sewage system. This can only be done at the front of the house. It is free of charge and we will arrange it for you. You can read more about this in the flyer Disconnection Wielstraat-Sportlaan.
You can register to disconnect. To do so, please complete the registration form.
We will contact you to discuss whether disconnection is actually possible.
Planning activities
In the fall of 2025, the utility companies (water, gas, and electricity) will begin their work. They will be replacing cables and pipes. This will require partially opening up sidewalks. There are also cables under the parallel road to Sportlaan.
We will then start the redevelopment work. This will be in early 2026. This will prevent the street from having to be dug up again later.
The utility companies will inform local residents about the start and end dates of their work and how you can reach your home.
You can stay up to date with the schedule and any road closures related to the redevelopment of these streets via the roadworks page.
