Lively Lions

We want to make the center of Beneden-Leeuwen more attractive and livable in the coming years. We are doing this through the 'Levendig Leeuwen' (Lively Leeuwen) project. The Levendig Leeuwen project involves the redevelopment of Zandstraat (from the intersection with Zijveld to the intersection with Dijkstraat), Molenlaan, Sportlaan, and Wielstraat.
Current state of affairs
On October 10, 2024, the city council approved the urban design. The urban design was drawn up based on the frameworks and preconditions provided by the city council. These frameworks have been elaborated into principles.
The urban design is currently being further elaborated technically for each street section.
How we proceed
We are further developing the urban design into a technical drawing. We are doing this per street section.
The order of implementation is: Molenlaan (2025), Wielstraat, part of Sportlaan, intervening streets (2026), and then Zandstraat/Dorpsplein and part of Sportlaan (2027).
Local residents will still have the opportunity to comment on the design before it is finalized.
Molenlaan will be redesigned in 2025.
A final plan has been drawn up for Wielstraat and Sportlaan in consultation with local residents. Utility companies will start work there at the end of 2025. These streets will then be redesigned.
