Apply for a permit for your plan (from January 1, 2024)

Do you have a plan or idea for your surroundings? Do you want to build or renovate a home or commercial building? Do you want to construct a driveway, install a dormer window or conservatory, or cut down a tree? Here you can read how to prepare and what you need to do.

There are a number of possibilities:

  • Would you like to know whether you need a permit? Or whether there is a reporting obligation? Then do the permit check.

Check the permits at the Omgevingsloket (Environment Desk)

  • Have you checked the permit requirements? Do you know what is and isn't allowed? Have you discussed your plans with your neighbors? If so, you can apply for a permit or submit a notification. You will need a DigiD to do this. The Rivierenland Environmental Agency issues permits for our municipality.

  • Do you have a plan/principle request that does not fit within the environmental plan? Then we will look at the possibilities before you submit a formal application to the environmental committee.

Always consult with people around you

A plan usually has an impact on the surrounding area. How will local residents be affected? What effect will your plan have on what people hear, see, and smell? That is why it is a good idea, and sometimes even mandatory, to discuss this with the local community in advance. This is also referred to as participation. No matter how big or small your plan is, it is always a good and smart idea to engage in dialogue with the people who live or work in the area affected by your plan.

When is participation mandatory?

In some cases, participation is mandatory. This concerns plans that do not fit into the environmental plans. They often have a significant impact on local residents and stakeholders. You must always consult with local residents before applying for a permit. This will help you avoid objections to the construction plan and delays. The comments of others may lead to adjustments or improvements to your plan. You should make a report of the discussion with the local community. To ensure that your report is complete and comprehensive, you can use the checklist 'report on discussion with your local community'. On the website of the Rivierenland Environmental Service (ODR), you will also find useful tips for initiating the discussion.
