Apply for a permit for your plan (effective January 1, 2024)
Do you have a plan or idea for your neighborhood? Are you planning to build or renovate a home or commercial building? Do you want to build a driveway, add a dormer window or sunroom, or cut down a tree? Here’s how to prepare and what steps to take.
There are a few options:
- Would you like to know if you need a permit? Or if you’re required to file a report? Then take the permit check.
Check your permits at the Omgevingsloket
- Have you completed the permit check? Do you know what is possible and permitted? Have you discussed your plan with local residents? If so, you can apply for a permit or file a notification. You will need a DigiD to do this. The Rivierenland Environmental Agency issues permits for our municipality.

Always consult with the people around you
A plan usually has an impact on the surrounding area. How will nearby residents be affected? How will your plan affect what people hear, see, and smell? That is why it is a good idea—and sometimes even required—to discuss this with the local community in advance. This is also known as public participation. No matter how big or small your plan is, it is always a good idea and a smart move to engage in dialogue with the people who live or work in the area affected by your plan.
When is participation required?
In some cases, public participation is mandatory. This applies to plans that do not align with the local environmental plans. Such plans often have a significant impact on local residents and stakeholders. You must always consult with local residents before applying for a permit. This helps you avoid objections to the construction plan and potential delays. The feedback you receive may lead to adjustments or improvements to your plan. You must prepare a report of the consultation with the community. To ensure your report is complete and comprehensive, you can use the checklist “Report on Consultation with Your Community”. On the Rivierenland Environmental Agency (ODR) website, you will also find helpful tips for conducting the consultation.
