Renew your driver's license online
What is it?
Is your driver's license about to expire, or would you like to add a category to your license? You can easily and quickly arrange this online via the RDW website.
You can then collect your driver's license from the town hall after two working days.

What should I do?
- You have the DigiD app with ID check
- Have a new passport photo taken by a photographer approved by the RDW. You cannot use a passport photo that you already have. Bring your current driver's license (or driver's license number) with you. You can find an approved photographer or photo booth using the RDW location finder at .
- The photographer will send your passport photo and signature (for your new driver's license) securely and digitally to the RDW. Within a few minutes, you will receive an email from the RDW. This email will state whether your photo has been approved and whether you can renew your driver's license online. An approved photo does not mean that you have already applied for the renewal.
- That email contains a link to the RWD website where you can renew your driver's license. Please note: do you need a health certificate? If so, make sure you request it before you start the application process for your new driver's license.
- Pay the fees via IDEAL. Renewing a driver's license costs€53.65. You pay the photographer for the passport photo.
- Two working days after submitting your application, you will receive an email from the RDW informing you that your new driver's license is ready.
- You make an appointment to collect your driver's license. Bring your current driver's license with you. You will hand this in.
- Five working days after you have collected your driver's license, you will receive a letter from DigiD containing a PIN code. You can use this code to activate the login function of your driver's license. This will enable you to use your driver's license to log in to government websites, for example.
Please note: Collect your driver's license within 3 months. After that, it will no longer be possible. You will then have to submit a new application.
