Renew your driver's license online
What is it?
Is your driver's license about to expire, or would you like to add a new category to your license? You can do this quickly and easily online via the RDW website at.
You can pick up your driver's license at city hall as early as two business days later.

What should I do?
- You have the DigiD app with ID verification
- Have a new passport photo taken by an RDW-approved photographer. You cannot use a passport photo you already have. Bring your current driver’s license (or driver’s license number) with you. You can find an approved photographer or photo booth using the RDW location finder at .
- The photographer will send your passport photo and signature (for your new driver’s license) securely and digitally to the RDW. Within a few minutes, you will receive an email from the RDW. This email will indicate whether your photo has been approved and whether you can renew your driver’s license online. Having an approved photo does not mean you have already applied for the renewal.
- That email contains a link to the RWD website, where you can renew your driver’s license. Please note: Do you need a medical certificate ( )? If so, be sure to request it before you begin the application process for your new driver’s license.
- Pay the fee via IDEAL. Renewing a driver's license costs€53.65. You pay for the passport photo at the photographer's studio.
- You will receive an email from the RDW two business days after submitting your application, informing you that your new driver's license is ready.
- Please schedule an appointment to pick up your driver's license at. Be sure to bring your current driver's license with you. You will need to turn it in.
- Within 5 business days of picking up your driver’s license, you will receive a letter from DigiD containing a PIN code. You can use this code to activate the login feature on your driver’s license. This will enable you to use your driver’s license to log in to government websites, for example.
Please note: You must pick up your driver's license within 3 months. After that, you will no longer be able to do so. You will then have to submit a new application.
