Place advertisements
What is it?
You cannot simply place advertising on or next to a building. The advertising must not, for example, endanger traffic. If you want to place an advertising sign on a building, you must apply for an environmental permit from the municipality.
This refers to advertising that you place on or attached to a building. Examples include signs, banners, and text or images on walls.
How does it work?
The municipality decides whether you will be granted a permit. It may refuse to grant a permit because:
- the advertisement does not fit in with the surroundings
- the advertisement does not fit in with the building where it is placed
- the advertising disturbs road users
- the advertisement damages the road
- the advertising interferes with the maintenance and management of the road
What should I do?
You can check whether you need to apply for a permit via the Omgevingsloket (Environment Desk) . You can submit your application online immediately. To do so, you will need a DigiD. Businesses can only submit their applications online. To do so, use eHerkenning.
Apply for a permit
Fill in the application form completely. Please provide the following information:
- why you want to advertise
- how big the advertisement is
- a drawing or a photo of the advertisement
Send the application form with the requested documents to the municipality. You will receive a confirmation of receipt. You will then automatically be notified whether you have been granted the permit.
How long will it take?
You will receive notification within 8 weeks as to whether you will be granted the permit. The municipality may extend this period once by 6 weeks. If the municipality does not make a decision within the specified period, you will automatically be granted the permit.
Lodge an objection
If you disagree with the municipality's decision, you can lodge an objection with the municipality within six weeks.
Additional information
If you wish to place advertising outside built-up areas or along a provincial road, you may need permission from the province. Please inquire about this with the province.
