Environmental Permit
What is it?
You need an environmental permit for certain types of work on or around your home or business premises. For example, if you are planning to build, renovate, demolish, install an alarm system, or cut down a tree.

The Omgevingsdienst Rivierenland (ODR) issues the permits for these activities on behalf of the municipality of West Maas en Waal.
You can use the Omgevingsloket website ( ) to check whether you need an environmental permit. You can also apply for the permit right away. The Rivierenland Environmental Agency (ODR) handles these matters on behalf of our municipality.
A speed camera permit
A building permit within 5 business days: the express permit. This applies to permits for dormer windows, property fences, signage, or window frame modifications. Normally, processing such a permit application takes 6 to 8 weeks. An express permit is granted within 5 business days if it Requirements certain Requirements :
- The application must be complete, including all required information and attachments
- The construction work must comply with the zoning plan
- The Planning Department must approve the plan
- The plan is not a monument
- The plan is not located within a protected village area
- When submitting the online application, clearly indicate that it is for a temporary permit
You apply for this permit in the same way as you would for a standard building permit. Be sure to clearly state in the project description that this is a temporary permit.
What should I do?
Discuss your plans with the municipality in advance. That way, you won’t be caught off guard. This is called a preliminary consultation.
- Check on Omgevingsloket onlineat to see if you need an environmental permit.
- If you need a permit, apply for it through Omgevingsloket online. Do this at least 8 weeks before you plan to start the work. For a complex application, do this at least 6 months in advance.
- For a complex application, the municipality will first issue a draft decision regarding your application. This draft decision is not yet a final decision. Anyone may submit their opinion on this draft decision within 6 weeks. This is called a written comment.
- If you disagree with the draft decision, please explain why in your comments.
- You will be notified automatically whether your permit has been approved.
How much does it cost?
What do I need?
- If you are applying for an environmental permit for your home, you will need your DigiD.
- If you are applying for an environmental permit for your business, you will need eHerkenning.
It also depends on your application which documents and information you will need. For example:
- a calculation or blueprint
- floor plans of the building (scale 1:100)
- a site plan (scale 1:1000 to 1:1500)
- a drawing of the facade elevations (scale 1:100)
- cross-sections and longitudinal sections (scale 1:100)
- details about the building's appearance
Please be sure to include drawings that show both the current and the new situation.
How long does it take?
- You will be notified within 8 weeks whether you have been granted the environmental permit.
- The Environmental Agency may extend this deadline once by 6 weeks.
- If the Environmental Agency does not make a decision within the specified time frame, you will automatically receive the permit.
- If you disagree with the Environmental Agency’s decision, you may file an objection within 6 weeks.
Detailed application
- If you have submitted a comprehensive application, you will be notified within 6 months whether you have been granted the environmental permit.
- This deadline may also be extended once by 6 weeks.
- If the Environmental Agency does not make a decision within the specified time frame, you will not automatically receive the permit.
- If you disagree with the Environmental Agency’s decision, you may file an appeal with the court within 6 weeks. You may only do so if you have also submitted comments on the draft decision.
