School transportation

What is it?
Children who are unable to get to school on their own due to a disability or condition may be eligible for the student transportation program. As a parent, you can apply for this through your local municipality.
Types of transportation services include:
- Reimbursement for public transportation or cycling with an escort,
- A mileage allowance for personal transportation,
- Adapted transportation
What should I do?
Starting in April 2026, you can apply for school transportation for the 2026–2027 school year.
Before applying for school transportation, please read the information and instructions carefully.
You will need a DigiD for this. Don’t have a DigiD (yet)? You can apply for one at www.digid.nl.

Would you like to submit an application for the current school year? You can do so using the application form. You can choose between the current school year (2025/2026) and the new school year (2026/2027).

How does it work?
To determine if your child is eligible for transport facilities, the municipality assesses your application against the municipal Ordinance on Funding Student Transport West Maas en Waal and the associated policy rules.
How much does it cost?
Depending on the type of school (elementary school or special education) and your income, the municipality may ask you to pay a fee.
What do I need?
Requirements for the application
- Your child's Social Security number
- School address
- School hours
- Distance along the shortest, safest route from home to school, according to the ANWB route planner
How long does it take?
Term
The municipality will make a decision within eight weeks. The municipality may extend this deadline once.
Objections and Appeals
If the municipality fails to make a decision within eight weeks and fails to notify the applicant of this before the end of the period, the applicant may file an objection with the municipal executive regarding the failure to make a decision.
Under the General Administrative Law Act, an objection may be filed against the rejection of an application or a declaration of inadmissibility. The objection must be sent by certified mail to the Municipal Executive within six weeks of the date the decision was sent.
The objection must include at least the following information:
- your name and address;
- the date on which you write the appeal;
- a description of the decision against which the objection is directed;
- the reasons why you disagree with the decision;
- your signature.
If the municipal executive rejects the objection, the applicant may file an appeal with the court.
