Requesting information from the municipality, Open Government Act (Woo)

What is it?

The Open Government Act (Woo) states that everyone has the right to access government information. For example, you have the right to information about the municipality’s policies and decisions. The municipality informs its residents about these matters through press releases, door-to-door newsletters, or its website.

If you would like information that has not been published, you can ask the municipality to make it public by submitting a Woo request. If the municipality decides to make the requested information public, it will also send it to you.

The Woo replaces the Government Information (Public Access) Act (Wob).

Public information

You can find the following information yourself:
Rules and regulations
Executive Board decisions
municipal council information
Notices
News articles
Municipal announcements in the Maas&Waler

After reviewing this information, you may no longer need to submit a request.

What should I do?

There are three ways to submit a Woo request:

  • by mail
  • drop off at the information desk at City Hall
  • using the online form on this page

We will not process requests received by any other means.

How much does it cost?

There is no fee for submitting a Woo request. However, the municipality may charge a fee for services such as making copies. You will be notified of this in advance.

How long does it take?

You will receive a response to your request within 4 weeks. The municipality may extend this period by 2 weeks. If your request is particularly extensive, a different deadline may be agreed upon with you.

If the municipality does not make a decision in a timely manner, you can request that it do so by sending a notice of default

Do you disagree with the decision?

If the municipality denies your request and you disagree with this decision, you can file an appeal within 6 weeks.
