COA takes next step toward reception center in Boven-Leeuwen
The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) considers it financially feasible to build a reception center in Boven-Leeuwen. This brings the project into a new phase.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) considers it financially feasible to build a reception center on the plot of land on Friessestraat in Boven-Leeuwen. The COA informed the municipality of this on June 11, 2025. The reception center is intended for a maximum of 180 asylum seekers. This brings the project into a new phase.
Location chosen in December 2024
In December 2024, the Municipal Executive designated this plot as a promising location for the accommodation of 180 asylum seekers. An information meeting on this subject was held at MFA De Rosmolen on December 16. In the months that followed, the COA investigated whether it was financially feasible to realize the accommodation location. That investigation has now been concluded positively.
Next phase: spatial feasibility
The next step is to conduct a preliminary spatial study. This should determine whether it is also possible from a planning perspective to build and manage the reception center on Friessestraat. The COA expects to be able to give a definitive answer on the spatial feasibility in the third quarter of 2025.
Alderman Marieke van den Boom: "We understand that the arrival of a reception center raises questions among residents. That is why we believe it is important to go through this process step by step and with care. Now that the COA has confirmed the financial feasibility, we can further explore the spatial possibilities together with them. We will continue to actively involve and inform residents, including through the sounding board group."
Soundboard group
A number of residents have signed up for the sounding board group. As soon as it is clear that the reception center can actually be realized, the municipality will invite this group to an initial meeting.
