Preventing neighbor disputes

Neighbor disputes occur in every neighborhood. They arise due to nuisance. One neighbor does or has something that bothers the other neighbor and is perceived as annoying. For example, your neighbor parking his bus in front of your house, the neighbor's son playing loud music, or the neighbor's children playing noisily. In this article, we give you some tips.

Talk to each other! Stay calm and collected and explain what is causing you nuisance. See if you can come to a solution together. Prevent irritation from becoming a daily annoyance. If you cannot resolve the issue with the other person, you can ask for help: report the nuisance to the municipality, ask for neighborhood mediation or involve the local police officer.

Nuisance in public spaces

If you experience nuisance in public spaces due to litter, vandalism, or other disruptive situations, you can report this to the municipality.

Acute nuisance

Are you experiencing acute nuisance that is not life-threatening or urgent? Report this to the police by calling 0900 8844. Is the situation getting out of hand or is the nuisance so serious that every second counts? Then call 112 immediately.

The community police officer is the point of contact for the police in your neighborhood and can provide you with tips on how to deal with nuisance situations. The following community police officers are active in the municipality of West Maas en Waal:

  • Willy Hagen (the Maas villages)
  • Jeroen Nicolasen and Roy van Meel (the Waaldorpen)

You can reach them by calling 0900 8844. You can also fill out a contact form at www.politie.nl.

Support from Neighborhood Mediation

It is important to maintain good relations with your neighbors. If you are unable to resolve the issue through discussion, you can contact Buurtbemiddeling West Maas en Waal (West Maas en Waal Neighborhood Mediation). Under the guidance of a neighborhood mediator, you will then engage in further discussion. You can contact the neighborhood mediation coordinator, Monique van Koesveld, by phone at 088 0011 333 or by email at buurtbemiddelingwestmaasenwaal@sterker.nl.
