Preventing Neighbor Disputes
Neighbor disputes happen in every neighborhood. They usually stem from nuisances. One neighbor does or has something that bothers another neighbor and is perceived as a nuisance. For example, your neighbor parking his van in front of your house, the neighbor’s son playing loud music, or the neighbor’s children playing noisily. In this post, we’ll give you some tips.
Talk it out with each other! Stay calm and composed, and explain what is causing you distress. See if you can work out a solution together. Don’t let a minor annoyance turn into a daily source of frustration. If you can’t resolve the issue with the other person, you can ask for help: report the disturbance to the local government, ask for neighborhood mediation, or contact the community police officer.
Nuisance in public spaces
If you are experiencing problems in public spaces—such as litter, vandalism, or other disruptive situations—you can report them to the city.
Acute nuisance
Are you experiencing an urgent disturbance that is not life-threatening or an emergency? Please report it to the police by calling 0900 8844. Is the situation getting out of hand, or is the disturbance so serious that every second counts? Then call 112 immediately.
The community police officer is the point of contact for the police in your neighborhood and can provide you with tips on how to deal with nuisance situations. In the municipality of West Maas en Waal, the following community police officers are active:
- Willy Hagen (The Maas Villages)
- Jeroen Nicolasen and Roy van Meel (the Waaldorpen)
You can reach them by calling 0900 8844. You can also fill out a contact form at www.politie.nl or.
Support from Neighborhood Mediation
It is important to maintain good contact with your neighbors. If talking to each other is no longer possible, you can contact Neighborhood Mediation West Maas en Waal. You will then engage in the conversation again, guided by a neighborhood mediator. You can contact the neighborhood mediation coordinator Monique van Koesveld, by phone at 088 0011 333 or by email at buurtbemiddelingwestmaasenwaal@sterker.nl.
