Construction and renovation, building codes
What is it?
If you have applied for an environmental permit for a new construction or renovation project, the municipality may refer your application to the building aesthetics committee. This committee will review:
- what the building will look like after construction or renovation
- what materials are used
- whether your building plan fits in with the existing surroundings or with other building plans in the area
- whether your construction plan meets the required quality standards
You can view the municipality’s requirements for new construction or renovation in the aesthetic guidelines and the municipality’s village quality plan.
What should I do?
As soon as the municipality informs you whether you will be granted an environmental permit, you will also know whether your building plan meets the aesthetic requirements.
Find out in advance whether your building plan meets the requirements
- If you would like to know in advance whether your building plan meets the aesthetic requirements, you can request a preliminary consultation via the Omgevingsloket at . In the Omgevingsloket, the preliminary consultation is referred to as “contact with the competent authority.”
- Upon request, the preliminary opinion submitted to the aesthetics committee will also be included here.
What do I need?
- drawings of the desired construction or renovation
- details about what the building will look like
- color photos showing what the building and the adjacent structures look like today
- information about the building materials and colors you want to use
Additional information
Existing and new structures must comply with reasonable aesthetic standards . In the interim section of the environmental plan, the current aesthetic regulations remain in effect. In the new section of the environmental plan, the municipality will reassess which regulations are appropriate.
