Construction and renovation, inspection
What is it?
The municipality checks whether everyone who builds or renovates complies with the rules. For example, whether construction is carried out in accordance with building regulations and whether a permit has been obtained for the renovation. The municipality also checks for noise, vibrations, and waste.
If you believe that a construction or renovation project is not being carried out in accordance with the rules, you can report this to the municipality.
How does it work?
The municipal inspectors carry out the inspection. They are authorized to:
- entering buildings without permission
- request information
- view business data and documents and make copies of them
- investigate matters, for example, open packages and take items away
Inspectors are never allowed to enter homes without the residents' permission.
If the municipality considers that construction or renovation work is not being carried out in accordance with the rules, it may halt the construction or renovation work. The municipality may also close off access to the building.
What should I do?
Notify the municipality if you believe that a construction or renovation project is not being carried out in accordance with the rules.
Additional information
With the entry into force of the Environment Act, the gradual implementation of the Wkb will commence.
The Quality Assurance Act for Construction (Wkb), also known as the Quality Assurance Act, transfers the supervision and assessment of the structural requirements of a building from the municipality to an independent party, the so-called quality assurance body. This does not apply immediately to all buildings, but will be implemented in phases.
