What is it?

Wastewater discharge by companies

If your company wants to discharge wastewater into the municipal sewer system, the municipality wants to know about it. Certain discharges only need to be reported. For other discharges, you must apply for a permit from the municipality.

Discharge of domestic wastewater

It is prohibited to discharge (dispose of) domestic wastewater outside the sewer system, for example into a stream, river, lake, or into the ground. Is your home or other building not (yet) connected to the sewer system? If so, apply for an exemption from the discharge ban. You can do this at the water board or water authority in your region.

If you have a water permit for discharge, you do not need to apply for an exemption.

You can find out what you need to do via the Environment Desk at .

What should I do?

Permit for discharging wastewater from businesses

Submit your notification or apply for a permit via the Omgevingsloket(Environment Desk) . Please provide the following information:

  • whether you have previously obtained permits for the discharge of wastewater (e.g., an environmental permit or water permit)
  • whether you have previously submitted a notification for the discharge of wastewater (only if you also have confirmation of the notification)

Exemption from discharging domestic wastewater

  • You should ask the water board whether you need an exemption.
  • Then, if necessary, apply for the exemption. Indicate how you want to discharge your domestic wastewater.
