Put up a sign
I want to put up a sign
You may not simply place a sign on or along a public road—for example, to announce an event or express your thoughts or feelings. If you still wish to place a sign, you must request permission from the municipality.
Requirements for putting up a sign:
- A maximum of 20 signs may be posted in the municipality, and no more than 14 days before the event
- All instructions from police and municipal officials must be followed immediately
- The signs must not be attached to buildings or structures in any way
- No signs may be posted around trees or traffic signal poles. Signs may only be attached to steel or aluminum poles. Traffic signs and street name signs must remain clearly visible
- Signs must be placed at least 30 cm from the edge of the roadway or bike path under all circumstances
- For traffic safety reasons, it is not permitted to place signs at an intersection, within 30 meters of a corner, or within 30 meters of a pedestrian or bicycle crossing
- The placement of the signs must not compromise traffic safety
- The signs must be removed immediately after the permit period expires
- If the signs have not been removed, this will be done at the applicant’s expense
Costs
The permit application fee is€106.00.
How does it work?
The municipality will decide whether to grant you permission. It will consider the following:
- Is normal use of the road possible?
- Is the safety of pedestrians and other traffic at risk?
- Will this cause any inconvenience to nearby residents?
- Is it spoiling the streetscape?
Please note! The municipality may refuse to allow commercial advertising on signs.
What should I do?
You must apply for the permit from the municipality. Please include the following information in your application:
- Why you want to put up the sign
- where you would like to place the sign
- When and for how long you should display the announcement sign
- how big the sign is
- a drawing or a photo of the announcement sign
How long does it take?
You will be notified within 8 weeks whether your request has been approved.
Additional information
The municipality may require that your sign be wind- and/or air-permeable. Please also note the following:
- Make sure to secure the sign properly.
- Be careful not to damage trees, walls, or lampposts.
- Make sure the sign can withstand the weather.
