Six municipalities in Rivierenland launch Stevig Ouderschap (Strong Parenting): extra support for young parents
Stevig Ouderschap offers parents a helping hand in raising their young children. It focuses on topics such as parenting, communication, stress, and everyday life with a young child.

Good news for young families in Rivierenland: six municipalities are launching the Stevig Ouderschap (Strong Parenting) program. This proven program offers extra support to parents who have just had a baby. The participating municipalities are Buren, Culemborg, Neder-Betuwe, Tiel, West Betuwe, and West Maas en Waal. With this step, they are joining more than 200 other municipalities in the Netherlands that already use this approach.
What is Firm Parenting?
Strong Parenting is a program that supports parents in raising their young children. Parenting can sometimes be intense and can raise doubts, concerns, or questions. In such cases, Strong Parenting offers a helping hand. Parents receive several home visits from a youth nurse from the health clinic. During these visits, topics such as parenting, communication, stress, and daily life with a young child are discussed.
Why this program?
The first years of a child's life are crucial for healthy development. When parents feel supported, children grow up better. Strong Parenting helps to identify and prevent problems early on. Together, we can ensure a safe and healthy start for every child.
Who is it for?
The program is intended for parents who could use extra support. For example, because they themselves had a difficult childhood, have few people around them, or find it difficult to raise their child. The assistance is voluntary, free of charge, and takes place in people's homes.
