Six municipalities in Rivierenland are launching "Stevig Ouderschap": extra support for young parents

This is an old post.

Stevig Ouderschap offers parents guidance in raising their young children. It addresses topics such as parenting, communication, stress, and daily life with a young child.

Good news for young families in Rivierenland: six municipalities are launching the Stevig Ouderschap program. This proven program offers extra support to parents who have recently had a baby. The participating municipalities are Buren, Culemborg, Neder-Betuwe, Tiel, West Betuwe, and West Maas en Waal. With this step, they join over 200 other municipalities in the Netherlands that already utilize this approach.

What is Firm Parenting?

Stevig Ouderschap is a program that supports parents in raising their young children. Parenting can be demanding at times, and parents may have doubts, concerns, or questions. In such cases, Stevig Ouderschap offers a helping hand. Parents receive several home visits from a pediatric nurse from the child health clinic. During these visits, topics such as parenting, communication, stress, and daily life with a young child are discussed.

Why this program?

A child’s early years are crucial for healthy development. When parents feel supported, children are better able to thrive. Stevig Ouderschap helps identify and prevent problems early on. Together, we ensure a safe and healthy start for every child.

Who is it for?

The program is designed for parents who could use some extra support. For example, because they had a difficult childhood themselves, have few people around them, or find it hard to raise their child. The assistance is voluntary, free of charge, and provided in people’s homes.
