What is it?

The white goods scheme ensures that you receive compensation for the replacement purchase (and/or economically sound repair) of a durable consumer good. Examples of durable consumer goods include washing machines, dryers, (combination) microwaves, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, vacuum cleaners, irons/ironing boards, carpeting, curtains, sofas, dining sets, cabinets, beds with accessories, etc. Repair costs may also be covered if they are economically justified.

What am I entitled to?

The maximum contribution is €500. The reimbursement must be spent on the purpose for which it was received. This must be done in the calendar year in which the application was submitted and approved. You must be able to demonstrate, on the basis of purchase and/or payment receipts, that the reimbursement received has been spent on the purpose for which it was received. No reimbursement can be requested for a calendar year that has already passed.

An application may only be submitted once every three years. The period commences on the date of approval of the application.

How does it work?

To be eligible for the white goods scheme, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are single, a single parent, or a family registered in the municipality of West Maas en Waal (people living at home and people residing in an institution are excluded).
  • you live independently;
  • you are dependent on an income of up to 120% of the social assistance standard and you have little or no assets;
  • You have a so-called durable consumer good that needs to be replaced (and/or repaired in an economically responsible manner).
  • you have not submitted an application under this scheme in the past three years, or your previous application did not exceed the maximum amount of €500;
  • The three-year period begins on the date the application is granted.

You may also be eligible if, at the time of application, you have a (current) debt settlement arrangement based on the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Rescheduling (Natural Persons) Act. Residents who have been granted financial or budget management assistance by the municipal debt counselor are also considered eligible.
