Vouchers for low-income families

What is it?

If you're struggling to make ends meet, you usually don't have money for fun activities. We believe it's important that everyone in our community has the opportunity to enjoy these activities. We're happy to help residents with children who are sometimes short on money.

What are the requirements?

The gift certificates are issued exclusively to

  • Low-income families (up to 120% of the public assistance threshold) with little or no assets and with school-age children living at home who are 17 years old or younger.
  • Families receiving debt counseling who have school-age children living at home.

You are considered to be receiving debt assistance if, as of January 1 of the calendar year, you have an (ongoing) debt settlement plan under the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Restructuring for Natural Persons Act. A resident who has been assigned financial or budget management by the municipal debt counselor is also considered an eligible recipient.

Your living situation as of January 1 of the calendar year also determines your eligibility for vouchers. The composition of your household (both in terms of size and age) determines the number of vouchers you will receive. Moving (in or out) and changes in your (family) situation (birth, death) during the calendar year do not affect the amount of the allowance.

What am I entitled to?

The total value of the gift certificates to be issued:

A. If you have a low income, little or no assets, and children living at home who are in school and up to 17 years of age, you are eligible for vouchers worth up to €75 per child between the ages of 0 and 18;

B. If you receive support from the Debt Assistance Program and have school-age children living at home, the monetary value of the vouchers is €75 per child aged 0 to 18, plus €50 per family member aged 18 or older. The applicant and/or his or her partner (the parents/guardians) are not considered family members aged 18 or older. They are not eligible for reimbursement.

It is not possible to submit an application for previous years.

How does it work?

Vouchers can only be redeemed at participating businesses in the municipality of West Maas en Waal. Participating businesses will not issue cash if the value of the purchase is less than the voucher's value. Participating businesses are free to offer additional discounts to individuals belonging to the target group who pay with a voucher.

What should I do?

If you believe you meet the Requirements, you can submit an application for the vouchers. Werkzaak Rivierenland is administering this program on our behalf.
