Vouchers for those on low incomes

What is it?

If you are struggling to make ends meet, you usually don't have money for fun things. We believe it is important that everyone in our community has the opportunity to do fun things. We are happy to help residents with children who sometimes have little money.

What requirements must I meet?

The vouchers are only issued to

  • Families with a low income (up to 120% of the social assistance standard) and little or no capital, with school-age children up to the age of 17 living at home.
  • Families receiving debt counseling and with school-age children living at home.

You are eligible for debt assistance if, on January 1 of the calendar year, you have a (current) debt arrangement based on the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Rescheduling (Natural Persons) Act. Residents who have been granted financial or budget management assistance by the municipal debt assistance provider are also considered eligible.

Your living situation on January 1 of the calendar year also determines your entitlement to vouchers. The composition of your household (both in terms of size and age) determines the number of vouchers that will be issued. Moving house (in or out) and changes in your (family) situation (birth, death) during the calendar year do not affect the amount of the allowance.

What am I entitled to?

The monetary value of the vouchers to be provided:

A. If you have a low income, little or no assets, and school-age children up to the age of 17 living at home, you are entitled to vouchers worth up to €75 per child aged between 0 and 18.

B. If you receive debt assistance and have school-age children living at home, the monetary value of the vouchers is €75 per child aged 0 to 18 and an additional €50 per family member aged 18 and older. The applicant and/or his or her partner (the parents/guardians) are not considered family members aged 18+. They are not entitled to compensation.

It is not possible to submit an application for previous years.

How does it work?

The voucher(s) can only be spent at participating businesses in the municipality of West Maas en Waal. Participating businesses will not issue cash if the value of the purchase is less than the value of the voucher. Participating businesses are free to offer additional discounts to people who belong to the target group and pay with a voucher.

What should I do?

If you believe you meet the conditions, you can submit an application for the vouchers. Werkzaak Rivierenland administers this scheme on our behalf.

How can I get help with money problems?

Many people feel guilty or ashamed when they cannot pay their bills (on time) or are in debt. But did you know that this is much more common than you might think? Anyone can find themselves in financial difficulty. Setbacks such as unemployment, illness, or divorce can cause people to get into trouble.

Are you worried about your financial situation? Having trouble paying all your bills on time? The first step is to seek help. For example, you can contact the organization that sent you the bill. Perhaps you can arrange a payment plan.
