Volunteer Insurance
What is it?
If you volunteer, you may not always be adequately insured. That is why the municipality has taken out volunteer insurance. As a volunteer, you are automatically covered by this insurance. This means you are insured if you have an accident or cause damage.
Volunteer insurance is a secondary form of coverage. This means that the volunteer’s own liability insurance—or that of the organization for which they are performing the activities—always takes precedence over the municipality’s volunteer insurance. It is also sometimes referred to as “safety net” insurance. It is advisable not to cancel your own insurance.
How does it work?
Every volunteer is covered by the municipality’s volunteer insurance. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what kind of volunteer work you do, or how often you do it. You are also covered if you are doing a community service internship.
If you are a volunteer with the fire department or police, you are not covered by this insurance.
What should I do?
You don't need to do anything. You are automatically insured.
