Foreword
We are proud to present the sustainability report of the Municipality West Maas en Waal. At a time when climate change and the energy transition are becoming increasingly evident, we are working together with residents, businesses, and partners to take concrete steps toward a future-proof living environment.
“2025 was a year of action. We began by conducting a study on a potential district heating network, promoted energy conservation, and created new roosting sites for bats. The sustainable steps we take today will make a big difference tomorrow,” says Marieke van den Boom, Alderman .
“At the same time, we have focused on climate adaptation: from greening and water storage to climate-resilient public spaces. Climate adaptation is about resilience: how we design our environment so that we can withstand the weather of tomorrow,” adds Evert Jan Slootweg, Alderman .
This report highlights what we have achieved in 2025 and where challenges still lie.
Together with our residents and partners, we are continuing to build a green, climate-resilient, and forward-looking West Maas en Waal.
