Ensuring quality of life

Alderman Rob Reuvers: "This strikes at the heart of Altforst. A primary school is more than just a place to learn; it is a meeting place and very important for the quality of life. Closing the school will affect the social cohesion of the village. We will look at possible solutions within our means and together with residents and partners to ensure the quality of life in Altforst."

Proposed decision by Groeisaam

According to Stichting Groeisaam, closure is inevitable due to structurally low student numbers, pressure on educational quality, and financial deficits. The school board argues that alternatives such as merger or independent continuation are not feasible. This is a proposed decision. The participation council of De Tweestroom has been asked for advice and discussions with parents will follow. Rob Reuvers: "Ultimately, the school board will decide whether the school will be closed permanently or can remain open. We understand that Stichting Groeisaam has to make difficult choices for De Tweestroom. But we believe that the impact on the village has not been sufficiently taken into account."

The municipality emphasizes that it has been in talks with Groeisaam for years. For example, the municipality has proposed various alternative scenarios. The municipality's goal has always been to preserve the school because it is very important for the quality of life in Altforst.
