On a bat safari in the municipality of West Maas en Waal
In collaboration with the municipality West Maas en Waal , IVN Nature Education West Maas en Waal a series of bat safaris. During these free walks, residents will explore their own neighborhood alongside a bat expert.
This summer, IVN Nature Education, in collaboration with the municipality West Maas en Waal, is organizing a series of special evening excursions: bat safaris. During these free walks, residents will explore their own neighborhood alongside a bat expert. Using a special bat detector, participants can even hear the bats hunting and communicating.
Closer than you think
Bats often live closer by than you might think: under eaves, in trees, or in old cavity walls. Yet many people know very little about these mysterious nocturnal animals. During the safaris, you’ll see how bats live, where they sleep, and what they eat. You’ll also get practical tips on how to help bats, for example by installing bat boxes or creating a bat-friendly garden.
Endangered animals
Bats are legally protected animals and play an important role in nature. Among other things, they help control insect populations. The municipality of West Maas en Waal believes it is important to raise residents’ awareness of these remarkable animals and their habitats. That is why the municipality, in collaboration with IVN Maas en Waal, is organizing free field trips.
Dates and registration
The bat safaris take place in various villages from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.:
- Wednesday, August 26: “ Maasbommel,” St. Lambertus Church
- Saturday, August 29: Appeltern, De Tuut Parking Lot
- Wednesday, September 2: Dreumel, at the square in front of St. Barbara's Church
- Friday, September 4: " Altforst," at St. Donatus Church
Registration for a bat safari is required.
