Municipality Seeks Suitable Sheds for Bat Boxes
We are looking for residents with a tall shed who have space for a bat box. Thanks to reports from residents, several bat boxes were installed last year. To ensure that bats continue to have sufficient roosting sites in the future, we need even more locations.
The municipality is looking for barns at least three meters high in all villages within the municipality, except in Beneden-Leeuwen , where—thanks to the residents—there are already enough bat roosts. Not every location is suitable. An ecologist will assess whether a site meets the Requirements. In doing so, the ecologist will consider the surroundings, the location, and the distribution of sites within the municipality.
If a location is deemed suitable, the municipality will provide the bat box and install it. There is no cost to residents.
Do you have a shed and would you like to help out?
These include, among others, the Requirements:
- a barn at least 3 meters high
- No artificial lighting near entry and exit openings
- landing options without obstacles such as trees
- It's a plus if there are trees nearby
