Transportation services

What is a transportation service?

In certain cases, you can receive assistance to help you get around. This assistance is called a transportation service.

The municipality may provide transportation assistance if you are unable to get around, or can do so only with difficulty, using public transportation. This may be due to an illness, a disability, or old age. We will work with you to find a solution.

How does it work?

During a home visit, a VraagWijzer counselor VraagWijzer discuss with you the difficulties you’re having getting around your neighborhood. They’ll assess whether you can resolve the issue on your own with the help of family, friends, or acquaintances. They’ll also determine whether a general assistance service could be of help to you.

Sometimes it is immediately clear that transportation is necessary. Sometimes it is not entirely clear, and it is necessary to seek independent medical advice.

If it is clear that transportation is necessary, this could include, for example:

  • a mobility scooter
  • a tricycle
  • a regional taxi pass
  • a modification to your car

A mobility scooter or, for example, a tricycle can be provided as an in-kind benefit. This means that a provider with whom the municipality has a contract supplies the equipment.

You can also choose to arrange the assistance yourself. In that case, you will receive a lump-sum payment (known as a personal budget). Different rules apply to modifications to your car. For example, a modification plan must be drawn up, quotes from multiple suppliers must be submitted, and so on. Regardless of the type of assistance, the VraagWijzer consultant will always inform you about the procedure.

Depending on the service, you may be required to pay a copayment. The CAK ( ) determines the amount of this copayment based on your income and assets, as well as any other benefits you receive. For a regional taxi pass, you are not required to pay a copayment, aside from a small one-time fee for the pass itself.

Additional information

The Social Support Act 2015 (Wmo 2015) aims to enable people to participate independently in society for as long as possible. For certain groups of people, this is not always easy. Think of older adults or people with physical or mental disabilities. These individuals can receive support, allowing them to continue doing as much as possible on their own.
