Confidential advisor in municipal shelters

The confidential advisor is available to all Ukrainians staying at the reception center in the municipality of West Maas en Waal.

Is something bothering you and would you prefer to talk to someone about it in confidence first? Do you feel that no one is listening to you? If so, you can turn to the confidential advisor.

What can you contact the confidential advisor about?

The confidential advisor is the contact person for matters relating to undesirable behavior and (suspected) abuses or irregularities.

Unwanted behavior is anything in your interactions and communication that is perceived as unwanted or hurtful. This can make you feel unsafe at your reception center. Examples include bullying, discrimination, violence, or unwanted sexual advances.

(Suspected) misconduct or irregularities refer to unlawful activities that jeopardize the public interest. Such situations usually affect multiple people, occur regularly, and can have serious consequences. Examples include abuse of authority or leaks of (personal) information.

What does a confidential advisor do?

Sometimes it can be difficult to discuss undesirable behavior. A confidential advisor can help with this.

The confidential advisor:

  • stands completely by your side and does not take over the problem; you are in control;
  • listens to your story;
  • thinks along with you;
  • helps you clarify your problem;
  • informs you about the options available for reaching a solution;
  • works with you to find a solution that suits your needs;
  • guides and supports you during (complaint) discussions;
  • informs you about your rights and the possibilities for filing an (official) complaint;
  • helps you write a letter of complaint.

The confidential advisor has a duty of confidentiality. Everything you discuss will remain confidential. You decide what is hurtful to you. You decide who has crossed your boundaries. You have the right to a safe place!

She is independent and therefore not employed by the municipality of West Maas en Waal.
Mandy Lagerweij is a certified confidential advisor of the LVV (National Association of Confidential Advisors).
