Confidential Advisor at the Municipal Shelter

The confidential counselor is available for all Ukrainians residing at the reception center in the municipality of West Maas en Waal.

Is something bothering you, and would you prefer to talk to someone about it in confidence (at least at first)? Do you feel like no one is listening to you? If so, you can reach out to the confidential advisor.

What can you talk to the confidential advisor about?

The confidential advisor is the point of contact for issues involving inappropriate behavior and (suspected) misconduct or irregularities.

Inappropriate behavior refers to any interaction or communication that is perceived as unwanted or hurtful. This can make you feel unsafe at your shelter. Examples include bullying, discrimination, violence, or sexual harassment.

In cases of (suspected) misconduct or irregularities, we are referring to unauthorized activities that jeopardize the public interest. Such situations typically affect multiple people, occur on a regular basis, and can have serious consequences. Examples include the abuse of authority or the leakage of (personal) information.

What does a confidential advisor do?

Sometimes it can be difficult to talk about inappropriate behavior. A confidential advisor can help with this.

The confidential advisor:

  • is fully on your side and doesn't take over the problem—you're in charge;
  • listens to your story;
  • works with you to find solutions;
  • helps you clarify your problem;
  • explains the options available for reaching a solution;
  • works with you to find a solution that suits your needs;
  • guides and supports you during (complaint) meetings;
  • informs you about your rights and the options for filing an (official) complaint;
  • helps you write a letter of complaint.

The confidential advisor is bound by a duty of confidentiality. Everything you discuss will remain confidential. You decide what is hurtful to you. You decide who has crossed your boundaries. You have the right to a safe space!

She is independent and therefore not employed by the municipality of West Maas en Waal.
Mandy Lagerweij is a certified confidential counselor LVV (National Association of Confidential Counselors).
