Apply for a traffic exemption
What is it?
Sometimes you need a permit if you want to do something on or along a public road. For example, if you:
- you want to park a moving truck or crane on the road (which will result in a partial road closure)
- constructs buildings
- organizes bike tours or events
To do this, you must apply for an exemption from the road authority.
Where do I apply for an exemption?
- For national highways: Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment
- for provincial roads: the Provincial Executive
- for roads managed by the water board: the water board
- for other public roads: the municipality
- For vehicle requirements: the RDW
What should I do?
If the roads in question are managed by the municipality, you must apply for the exemption from the municipality. Please include the following information with your application:
- location, date, and time of your activity
- reason for and necessity of the exemption
