Job Opening: Field Supervisor (Landscaping)
Are you a green all-rounder? Do you enjoy working outdoors and want to help make the municipality West Maas en Waal little more beautiful? Then be sure to read on! The Public Space Management Team is looking for a Field Supervisor for Landscaping (36 hours per week).
What are you going to do?
As a field supervisor for the landscaping department, you play a key role in creating a pleasant and attractive environment for our more than 20,000 residents. Your work is literally the face of our municipality. Together with your colleagues, you keep our public spaces safe and clean. You are responsible for the operational management and supervision of the landscaping staff (approximately 4 people, some of whom are employed through the Werkbedrijf). You enjoy working outdoors and take on all maintenance tasks in public green spaces. Whether it involves maintaining public gardens, parks, and cemeteries, trimming hedges, pruning trees, planting new greenery, or raking leaves: you’re up for the task.
You:
- You are the eyes and ears in public spaces for our residents. If you see or hear something that could be improved, discuss it with the supervisors and take action. If a resident approaches you with a report or comment, handle it politely;
- operates and maintains machines and tools, performing daily maintenance;
- provides advice to the supervisor on landscaping matters and makes suggestions for improvements;
- is happy to work about 8 to 10 Saturdays at the recycling center.
What does your day look like?
You start the day with your colleagues at the municipal yard over a cup of coffee. You catch up for a bit and then go over the day’s schedule. From that point on, every day is different. One day you’ll head out into the community with your colleagues. The next day you’ll assist the tree crew, which involves pruning and cutting trees, among other tasks. The next day, you’ll handle general tasks, such as cleaning up litter or doing (preparatory) work for events. You’ll
clear weeds from parks, reshape park areas, and renovate green spaces. In short: no two days or weeks are the same, and that’s what makes your work challenging and varied.
What do we expect from you?
You’re eager to work outdoors and help make our public spaces a little more beautiful every day. You communicate clearly and are flexible. You’re solution-oriented and enjoy working with others.
You have:
- Vocational education (MBO) level of work and thinking;
- Knowledge of plants and trees;
- Experience in the day-to-day management of employees;
- Experience working with a (green) management system via tablet is a plus;
- Several years of relevant work experience in landscaping;
- BE driver's license. A T and C license is preferred;
- Experience with tree maintenance, including work performed from an aerial work platform;
- Participation in winter road maintenance is negotiable (provided you have a Class C driver's license);
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
What do we offer you?
- A salary of up to €3,743 (pay grade 6) for a 36-hour workweek. The salary depends on your education and experience;
- A one-year employment contract. If your performance is satisfactory, we will convert this to a permanent contract;
- A monthly supplement of 17.05% of your gross salary: the Individual Choice Budget (IKB). This includes vacation pay, life-course savings contributions, and a year-end bonus. You can use this for things like extra pay, vacation time, or a new bicycle;
- Do you have student debt with DUO? If so, you can use your IKB to make an annual partial payment;
- A good pension plan with the ABP Pension Fund;
- A commuting allowance;
- A wellness allowance of €500 gross per year (based on a 36-hour workweek). For example, for a gym membership, sportswear, or a visit to the sauna;
- Your daily serving of fruit;
- Ample free parking for your car and bicycle;
- A friendly and informal work environment. Your colleagues will welcome you with open arms and make sure you feel right at home.

Of course, it’s helpful to know where you’ll be working after the two rounds of interviews. You’ll be joining the Public Space Management team.
