Benefits for older and partially disabled workers (IOAW)

What is it?

For people who become unemployed in old age, there is an IOAW or IOW benefit after their unemployment benefit.

You can receive benefits if you were born before January 1, 1965, and became unemployed after your 50th birthday. This is called IOAW benefits. The IOAW supplements your (family) income up to social assistance level. Your income and that of your partner, if applicable, will be deducted from the benefit. You will therefore only receive this benefit if you do not have sufficient income to live on. You will receive the benefit after your unemployment benefit has ended.

What requirements must I meet?

You are eligible for IOAW benefits if you:

  • were born before January 1, 1965;
  • does not have sufficient income to live on. Your partner's income is also taken into account. The income of minor children is not taken into account.

In addition, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • You became unemployed after turning 50, but you have not yet reached the state pension age. You received unemployment benefits for more than 3 months. And you have used up your full unemployment benefit entitlement.
  • After turning 50, you became entitled to WGA benefits. These WGA benefits have been discontinued because you are less than 35% incapacitated for work.
  • You are partially incapacitated for work (less than 80%). And on December 28, 2005, before the introduction of the WIA, you were receiving IOAW benefits.

Your municipality will check whether you meet the conditions and decide whether you will receive an IOAW benefit.

You apply for the IOAW benefit from the UWV. The UWV will forward your application to Werkzaak Rivierenland. They will check whether you meet the conditions and decide whether you will receive an IOAW benefit.
