T driver's license

What is it?

You need a T driver's license if you want to drive a tractor or tractor on public roads. With a T driver's license, you are allowed to drive an agricultural and forestry tractor (LBT) with a trailer. You are also allowed to drive a limited-speed motor vehicle (MMBS) with a trailer.

To obtain a T driver's license, you must take a theory and practical exam at the CBR. You can take the theory exam from the age of 15.5. You can take the practical exam from the age of 16. If you obtain a driver's license for category C (truck), you will automatically also be credited with category T.

The costs of a driver's license are:

How does it work?

You do not always need a T driver's license. In the following cases, you do not need to have a T driver's license:

  • You never drive on public roads. For example, when driving a tractor in a field.
  • You are driving a work machine
    • that cannot pull a trailer or interchangeable machinery.
    • that is no wider than 130 cm.
    • intended for mowing, weed control, sweeping, snow removal, combating slippery conditions, or collecting dog waste.

What should I do?

Category T for driver's licenses was introduced on July 1, 2015. Did you have a tractor certificate before that date? If so, you can exchange the certificate for a T driver's license. You can do this via the RDW. Exchange the certificate before July 1, 2016.

Did you already have a driver's license before July 1, 2015? In the following cases, category T will be added when you renew your driver's license:

  • Your Class B driver's license was issued before July 1, 2015.
  • You are 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • Category B on your driver's license has not been declared invalid.

Approach

Please bring the following with you:

  • a valid form of identification
  • your old driver's license, if applicable
  • A good-looking passport photo that

You pay for the driver's license when you apply.

Term

You can collect your new driver's license after five working days. Do you need your driver's license sooner? It is possible to apply for a driver's license urgently. If you apply for your driver's license before 2 p.m., you can usually collect it the next working day.

You have three months to collect your driver's license.
