Construction begins on nine public housing units in Maasbommel

In Kampstraat in Maasbommel, Alderman Marieke van den Boom of the Municipality of West Maas en Waal and Managing Director Marinus Kempe of Housing Foundation De Kernen laid the first stone for the construction of nine homes.
Three blocks of three compact homes will be built, designed for households of up to three people. These homes will replace the six senior housing units that have been demolished in phases over the past few years. The homes are nearly energy-neutral. A unique feature of the building systems is that the outdoor unit of the heat pump is integrated into the storage sheds in the garden.
Area addressed
In cooperation with the Municipality of West Maas en Waal, in addition to the construction of the nine homes, the rest of the surrounding area is also being addressed. For example, in consultation with the adjacent tennis club, the boundary fence between the homes and the tennis club has been replaced by a Kokowall, a plantable sound barrier. The exterior of this barrier is finished with durable coconut fibers.
The municipality plans to redesign the entire length of Kampstraat to make it more climate-resilient and carry out extensive renovations. The road surface, sidewalks, and green spaces will be renewed. A stormwater sewer will be installed to relieve the burden on the sanitary sewer system. In addition, most parking spaces will be made more green through the use of permeable paving. A gathering spot with a bench and greenery will also be created. Finally, the utility companies will replace cables and pipes.
