Step-by-step plan for large-scale earthmoving
We developed a step-by-step plan for large-scale earthmoving. It was adopted by the council on April 4, 2019 . The purpose of this plan is to evaluate activities involving large-scale earthmoving. These are activities that require an excavation permit from the province.
What does this mean for you?
The step-by-step plan is particularly important for those proposing large-scale earthmoving projects. These are usually companies or other government agencies. Their plans will need to comply with the new policy. For you as a resident, the new policy provides greater clarity on how we assess these plans. Consider the following: How do we protect our residents from adverse effects? What steps must a project initiator take? What do we look for during the assessment? The new policy answers these types of questions.
Why are we creating this plan?
We want to thoroughly assess plans involving large-scale earthmoving. These plans can have serious consequences, which we want to prevent. That is why we developed a “soil resources policy” back in 2011. In recent years, we have seen a lot of activity surrounding large-scale earthmoving. This is why we are updating our policy, so that we can assess plans for large-scale earthmoving even more effectively.
