What is it?

If you want to sell goods or food from a stall or sales vehicle, you must apply for a trading permit from the municipality. This will allow you to set up your stall or vehicle in a public outdoor location, such as on or along a public road.

You can apply for a pitch if you:

  • registered with the Chamber of Commerce
  • have legal capacity

What should I do?

You apply for the permit from the municipality. Provide the following information:

  • what goods or services you sell
  • where you would like the stand to be located (with site plan)
  • on which day or part of the day you would like to use the pitch

How long will it take?

You will receive notification within 8 weeks as to whether you will be granted the permit. If there is a waiting list or the municipality has set a maximum number of permits, it may take longer before you receive the permit.

Lodge an objection

Do you disagree with the municipality's decision? If so, you can lodge an objection within six weeks.

Additional information

If the municipality does not own the land where you want to set up your stall, you will also need permission from the landowner.

A location permit is different from a market permit or a peddler's permit.

You need a market place permit if you want a spot at a daily market, weekly market, or annual fair. You need a peddler's permit if you sell goods on the street or door-to-door. Peddling means that you sell your goods at different locations.
