Hanging a banner
What is it?
If you want to hang a banner on a public road, you need permission from the municipality. For example, if you want to announce an event or convey a specific message.
How does it work?
If you want to hang up a banner, ask yourself the following questions:
- Is normal use of the road possible?
- Is the safety of pedestrians and other traffic at risk?
- Is there any nuisance for local residents?
- Could the message be offensive to others?
- Will it spoil the streetscape?
Please note! The municipality may refuse commercial advertising texts on banners.
What should I do?
You ask the municipality for permission to hang your banner. Include the following information in your request:
- why you want to hang up the banner
- where you want to hang your banner
- when and for how long you will hang the banner
- how big the banner is
- a drawing or a photo of the banner
How long will it take?
You will hear within 8 weeks whether you will be granted permission.
Additional information
The municipality may require that your banner be wind and/or air permeable. Please also note the following:
- Make sure you secure the banner properly.
- Make sure you do not cause damage to trees, walls, or lampposts.
- Ensure that the banner can withstand the weather.
