Social Medical Indication for Child Care

What is a Social Medical Indication (SMI)?

The Social Medical Indication for Child Care is a program for parents who need child care due to an urgent medical and/or social reason. Professionals working with the family can confirm that there is a high need for child care and support the application.

Requirement: You are (temporarily) not eligible for the child care allowance from the Tax and Customs Administration.

How does it work?

You are using this program because you are temporarily unable to care for your child. This is due to social and/or medical reasons. You expect to be able to care for your child again (with or without assistance) once this period is over.

You may take advantage of this program for up to 6 months. In very rare cases, an extension may be granted. Your child must be between the ages of 0 and 12 or not yet enrolled in secondary school.

What should I do?

You can submit your application using the button below. All questions must be answered. This helps us avoid delays in processing your application. You will then be VraagWijzer by VraagWijzer for an interview. Your social worker may be present at your request.
