Come join us! Starting again in October at West Maas en Waal

Starting October 5, “Schuif samen aan!” will kick off again at West Maas en Waal. After four successful editions, this initiative once again offers residents the opportunity to meet one another and enjoy a meal together. This year is especially special because, for the first time, all eight villages are participating.

Together at the table, connected together

The gatherings are organized at the eight MFAs and village halls. “Schuif samen aan!” is about more than just a meal. The initiative brings people together and provides an opportunity for new encounters, conversations, and connections. Especially during the fall and winter months, people tend to stay indoors more often. Social interactions don’t happen as naturally then as they do during the rest of the year. A shared meal can therefore be a valuable opportunity during this time to meet one another, share stories, and experience a sense of connection.

Alderman Rob Reuvers emphasizes the importance of these gatherings: “Schuif samen aan!” is about getting together, having a conversation, and showing care for one another. For some people, going somewhere on their own can be a big step. That’s why I hope residents will invite a neighbor, friend, or acquaintance from the community to join them. Sitting down together often leads to wonderful conversations and new connections. During previous editions, I’ve seen firsthand just how valuable these encounters are. I’m grateful to all the volunteers, community centers, and multifunctional centers (MFAs) that make this possible. This is how we ensure that everyone feels welcome and can participate.”

A Gathering in Every Village

The municipality of West Maas en Waal is delighted that residents in every village can join in for a communal hot meal this time around. The meals will be served at the MFAs and village halls, the central gathering places in each village. Eating together brings people together and fosters enjoyable and meaningful interactions. This helps residents get to know one another better and sometimes leads to new friendships and connections. When people know one another, it’s also easier to look out for one another and offer help when needed. In this way, this initiative contributes to a strong, engaged, and livable community.

Practical Information

The sessions will take place between October 5, 2026, and April 5, 2027. To keep the meals affordable, the municipality contributes toward the costs. As a result, the participant fee is €6 per adult and €5 for children 12 and under. A limited number of spots are available for each session.
