Working together to create a dementia-friendly society

This is an old message.

A dementia-friendly society is a society in which everyone recognizes dementia and knows how to deal with it. The municipality of West Maas en Waal would like to know what information residents need in the area of dementia and to what extent society is already dementia-friendly. That is why they have drawn up a questionnaire.

Meeting on dementia at MFA De Rosmolen a great success

In a dementia-friendly society, people with dementia and their loved ones can participate for as long as possible. This starts with knowledge about dementia. For these reasons, the municipality of West Maas en Waal organized a meeting about dementia at MFA De Rosmolen on October 31. The meeting was a success and well attended.

Alderman Reuvers on dementia-friendly society: "I think it's important that we work together to create a dementia-friendly society. For me, a dementia-friendly society is one in which everyone knows what dementia is and how to deal with it, from your neighbor and the baker to supermarket employees and gardeners. I am pleased that we have been working with the welfare organization Sociom on this since 2024. They can support residents, associations, organizations, and companies in becoming dementia-friendly."

Questionnaire on the dementia-friendly society in West Maas en Waal

The municipality would like to know what information residents need. It also wants to find out how well residents, entrepreneurs, associations, and organizations deal with dementia. That is why they have created a short questionnaire for this purpose.

The questionnaire is intended for all residents of the municipality of West Maas en Waal. The questionnaire can be completed until Sunday, December 8.
Do you need help completing the questionnaire? If so, please call Joyce Fitzgerald, community worker at Sociom. You can reach her at 06 8997 4946.

Take a (free) training course from the organization Samendementievriendelijk (Dementia-Friendly)

In a dementia-friendly society, people with dementia and their loved ones can participate for as long as possible. This starts with knowledge about dementia: what is dementia and how do you recognize it? With this knowledge, we can help each other so that someone with dementia can, for example, continue to do their shopping and remain a member of a club.
The organization Samendementievriendelijk offers (free) training courses to help residents with this. There are online training courses for hairdressers, for example, as well as physical training courses for clubs. For more information, visit the website: www.samendementievriendelijk.nl.
