Together against violence against women and girls

This is an old message.

Violence against women must stop. The mayors of Beuningen, Druten, Heumen, West Maas en Waal, and Wijchen are joining forces to make this clear during Orange the World.

Violence against women must stop. The mayors of Beuningen, Druten, Heumen, West Maas en Waal, and Wijchen are joining forces to make this clear during Orange the World. This global campaign draws attention to violence against women and girls from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).

Orange is the color of Orange the World. This color represents the sunrise: a new beginning, in which women and girls can live safely. This year's theme is: "Safe, everywhere and always." Violence against women is not limited to one place. It happens everywhere: on the street, on public transport, when going out, at work, and at home.

Mayor Sengers of the municipality of Druten emphasizes that we must take responsibility together: "We must combat violence against anyone. However, women and girls are more often victims worldwide. Far away and also close to home. And why? Because they are women? We are joining forces for their safety and freedom."

Mayor Minses of the municipality of Heumen: "Women and girls must be able to feel safe everywhere and at all times," he says. "Free from violence and aggression. We can only achieve this if we tackle it together."
Mayor Van Neerbos of the municipality of West Maas en Waal emphasizes the role of men in this fight: "Unfortunately, violence against women is still not a sufficient topic of discussion among men. However, this is necessary to break the taboo."

Mayor Helmer-Englebert of the municipality of Wijchen points out that everyone can contribute: "Violence can happen anywhere," she says. "Whether it's on the street, at the sports club, at work, or online. We can all do something. Don't look away, but make a difference. Together we can stop this violence."

Mayor Bergman of the municipality of Beuningen adds: “Violence against women affects us all. It is up to us to work together to ensure a safe environment for everyone. Join us and take a stand against violence, wherever you are.”

The mayors call on everyone to work with them toward a future in which women and girls can live safely everywhere.
