Strong together in sports: the municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal join Uniek Sporten

The municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal believe it is important that everyone has the opportunity to participate in sports and exercise, including people with disabilities or chronic illnesses. That is why both municipalities will join the Uniek Sporten platform on September 1, 2025. This platform is for people with disabilities, who can use it to discover which sports and exercise activities suit them best.  Sports clubs and professionals can also visit the platform for help and information about sports for people with disabilities. By participating in this platform, the municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal are demonstrating that they believe in a society in which everyone can participate.

What is Unique Sports?

Uniek Sporten is a website run by the Disabled Sports Fund. It provides information about sports for people with disabilities. The platform also issues the Uniek Sporten Certificate to sports clubs that are committed to helping people with disabilities. It also offers various training courses to sports clubs and professionals.

Exercise is healthy and brings people together.

Alderman Gérard de Wildt, municipality of Druten: “Everyone should be able to participate in sports. Whether someone is young or old, rich or poor, or has a disability. Sports are not only fun and healthy, they also bring people together. But if you have a disability, you sometimes need a little extra help. That help is provided by Uniek Sporten, which enables people with disabilities to participate as well.”

Benefits for residents and employees

Alderman Rob Reuvers, West Maas en Waal municipality: "The website features a sports selection tool. This allows athletes to discover which sport suits them best. But you can also participate in one of the workouts on the site from home. People who work in sports or healthcare can find information and tools on the platform. This enables them to help residents exercise in a way that suits them."

Unique Sports in the Nijmegen Region

With the participation of the municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal, all municipalities in the Nijmegen region are now affiliated with Uniek Sporten. This means that residents with disabilities in this region can now take advantage of a wider range of sports and exercise activities.
