What is it?
You can apply for a passport at the city hall. You can pick up your passport after 6 business days.
Urgent Request
If you need your passport quickly, you should submit an expedited application. If you apply for the passport before 2:00 p.m., you can pick it up the next business day. However, there is an additional fee for expedited applications.
Traveling with children
- Children must have their own travel document and may no longer be listed in their parents' passport.
- If you are traveling abroad with your child and your last name is different from your child’s, you will need proof that you are the child’s parent or have parental authority.

The cost of a passport is:
- For persons under 18 years of age:€67.05
- For individuals 18 years of age and older: €88.65
Do you need to apply for a passport urgently? If so, you will be charged an additional fee of€60.30
How does it work?
How long is my passport valid for?
- Passport (18 years of age or older): 10 years
- Passport for children up to 17 years of age: 5 years
- Business passport: 10 years
- Second passport: 2 years
Business passport
If you travel frequently (for example, for work), you can apply for a business passport. This is a standard passport, but it has twice as many pages for stamps.
Second passport
You can apply for a second passport if you:
- traveling to various countries for which you must apply for a visa
- visits countries that are in conflict with one an .
If you wish to apply for a second passport, the following Requirements apply:
- Your current passport is valid for at least another 6 months.
- You can prove that you need the second passport.
What should I do?
- You must apply for a passport in person at the municipal office.
- If you are applying for a passport for your child, please bring your child with you.
- Your fingerprints will be recorded in your passport. Make sure your fingers are clean.
- Children under the age of 12 are not required to provide fingerprints.
- You must pick up your passport in person.
- If you are picking up a passport for your child, please bring your child with you.
- If you wish to keep your old passport, you must specifically request to do so. Otherwise, your old passport will be destroyed.
Physical or intellectual disability
If you are unable to apply for a passport in person due to a physical or mental disability, a municipal employee can come to your home. If there is any doubt, the municipality will ask you to provide a medical certificate.
If you are unable to provide fingerprints due to a temporary physical disability, you will receive a passport that is valid for 1 year. If your disability is permanent, you will receive a passport that is valid for 10 years.
Passport lost or stolen
- If your passport is lost or stolen in the Netherlands, you can apply for a new one immediately. When you apply, you will need to sign a Declaration of Loss. You do not need to file a police report.
- If you have theft insurance, it is advisable to file a police report.
- If you need to travel immediately, you can apply for an emergency passportfrom the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
- If you find your old passport, you are required to turn it in to the local government. This passport is no longer valid.
- If you lose your passport while abroad, report it to the local police. Ask for a written confirmation of this. You will need this for your insurance. In the Netherlands, you do not need to report it to the Dutch police.
- Report the loss or theft of your passport to the Dutch embassy or consulate and apply for an emergency passport.
- You can use the foreign police report to apply for a new passport at the municipal office.
What do I need?
- A clear, well-lit passport photo that
- is no older than 6 months at the time of application and
- meets the passport photo requirements.
- All passports and ID cards you still have, even if they have expired.
- If you are applying for a second passport, please bring proof that you need it.
- If your passport is lost or stolen while you are abroad, please bring the police report issued by the foreign authorities.
- Debit card or cash. You pay immediately when you apply.
Children under 18
- Written consent from both parents or the person who has custody of the child. Please use the form provided by the municipality. You can also both sign the form on the spot, in which case you do not need to bring a completed form with you.
- Valid (original) identification for both parents or the person who has custody of the child.
- Children must be present in person when applying for and picking up their passport.
- At least one parent or guardian must be present when submitting the application.
- A clear, recent passport photo taken no more than 6 months prior to the date of application. This passport photo meets the passport photo requirements.
- All passports and ID cards you still have for your child, even if they have expired.
- Debit card or cash. You pay immediately when you apply.

How long does it take?
You can pick up your passport after 6 business days. If you submitted an urgent application in the morning, you can pick up your passport the next business day.
If you no longer have your old passport and you do not have any other form of identification, the municipality will conduct an investigation to verify your identity. This may result in a delay in receiving your passport.

- If you are not a Dutch citizen, you may be eligible for a refugee passport or an alien passport.
