Each center has a Roman Catholic primary school, and there are two locations offering Protestant Christian primary education. There is also a public primary school. In addition, there are seven preschools and seven daycare centers, including after-school care. Beneden-Leeuwen is home to Juniorcollege West Maas en Waal, a branch of the Pax Christi College school community in Druten.
Developments
There have been many developments in the field of education in recent years. Local education policy is now a joint responsibility of the statutory partners. These partners are:
- all educational authorities within the municipality (primary and secondary education)
- the boards of the preschool daycare centers
- representatives of the daycare centers
- the municipality of West Maas en Waal (Social Development team)
These partners jointly make agreements about local education policy. This includes the development of community schools and the former educational disadvantage policy. These agreements are laid down in a Local Education Agenda (LEA). This LEA sets out the goals to be pursued, the steps that parties must take to achieve these goals, who has which responsibilities and/or tasks, and who will bear which costs.
