The barrier at the Tiel recycling center will be closed during container changes

Starting Monday, December 1, the Avri recycling center in Tiel will be briefly closed several times a day by a barrier. This will occur while containers are being replaced and will last 10 to 15 minutes each time.

This measure is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. The recycling center is often very busy, which can create unsafe situations for visitors and staff when containers are being replaced.

Tip: Don’t come on Saturday unless you absolutely have to. It’s extra busy then, and wait times can be long.

Make-up days for trash collection

Is collection day a holiday? You can find the make-up collection date on the waste collection calendar in the Avri app and on avri.nl. Please place your bin on the curb by 7:30 a.m. Waste will be collected by 4:45 p.m.

2026 Waste Collection Schedule

Check out the 2026 waste collection calendar starting Wednesday, December 17, in the Avri app and at avri.nl. In the new year, we may collect waste on a different day than you’re used to.

Paper recycling bins will be closed around New Year's

A few days before New Year’s Eve, Avri will secure a large number of public paper recycling bins to prevent vandalism. They will reopen as soon as possible after New Year’s Eve.

Public trash cans

In the municipalities of Tiel, Neder-Betuwe, and a large part of West Betuwe, Avri will lock a large number of public trash cans or remove the (indoor) bins around the holidays. After the New Year, we will unlock the bins or return them as soon as possible.

Christmas trees

You can drop off Christmas trees for free at the recycling center. You may also place the tree, cut into small pieces, in the green organic waste bin. Make sure the lid closes properly. Culemborg and Maasdriel are holding a Christmas tree collection drive. Check your municipality’s website for more information.

Firework debris

Starting Friday, January 2, 2026, you can dispose of fireworks debris, such as cardboard packaging and firework containers, separately at recycling centers. Do not throw the debris in the general waste. This will prevent smoldering debris from causing a fire hazard. How do you safely dispose of fireworks debris? First, let the debris cool down. Then wet them and place them in a sturdy plastic bag. Take the bag to the recycling center.

Ice Control

Avri is responsible for winter road maintenance in the municipalities of Buren, Neder-Betuwe, and Tiel. For more information and to view the gritting routes, visit avri.nl. You can also follow our special account on X: @AvriGladheid.

Waste Collection Fee 2026

Your waste collection fee consists of two parts. You pay a fixed annual base rate that is the same for everyone. In addition, you pay a fee each time (the variable rate) for putting out your residual waste. The General Board will set the rates for 2026 on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Shortly thereafter, the rates and regulations will be posted on avri.nl. In 2026, you will receive a tax assessment from Belasting Samenwerking Rivierenland (BSR) for the 2026 base rate and a separate assessment for the number of times you disposed of residual waste in 2025.
