Berth
What is it?
A mooring is a section of water with adjacent land where a houseboat is permitted to moor. A mooring is therefore not simply a stretch of open shoreline. The municipality designates the locations of moorings in public waters.
If you wish to moor a houseboat or other vessel, you must ask the municipality for permission to use a mooring. You may need to apply for a permit to do so.
How does it work?
The municipality determines which areas in public waters are designated as mooring sites. It also determines what types of vessels are permitted to moor there and how many mooring spaces are available. Examples of vessels include houseboats, jetties, and pontoons.
Municipal regulations do not apply if the water is managed by the Rijksoverheid, the province, or the water board. If you do not know who manages the public waterway, please check with the municipality.
What should I do?
You must apply to the municipality for permission to use a mooring. Please provide the following information:
- Description of your vessel
- the spot where you want to moor your houseboat or vessel
- how long you would like to use the berth
How long does it take?
The permit process takes up to 13 weeks.
