Network operator Liander and the municipality of West Maas en Waal are joining forces to prepare the municipality's power grid for the future. Liander is using a neighborhood approach to increase the capacity of the electricity grid. This involves installing additional electricity substations and laying new cables. This expansion is necessary to better align the power grid with the growing demand for electricity. To formalize the agreements made, Liander and the municipality signed the cooperation agreement for the neighborhood approach on October 22.

The expansion of the power grid is particularly visible in the additional electrical substations that are being installed. The electrical substation, also known as a transformer station, is an important building block of the energy network. Additional substations and cables are needed to make the electricity grid more powerful, thereby increasing its capacity. By working on a village or neighborhood by village or neighborhood by neighborhood basis, disruption is limited and work can be carried out efficiently to reduce and prevent disruptions and problems on the electricity grid.

Neighborhood approach for efficient implementation

The signing of the cooperation agreement for the neighborhood approach marks the start of further elaboration of the agreements made between Liander and the municipality of West Maas en Waal.

It will enable us to live without natural gas by 2050."

By working with the municipality to take a neighborhood-based approach, we can expand the network in a timely manner and adapt it to growing demand.
