What is it?

The designation 'Royal' is an honorary title awarded to companies, associations, foundations, or institutions. You can apply for this designation from the mayor. If granted, you may add the title 'Royal' to the name of your organization. You may also use an image of the Royal Crown in your logo.

How does it work?

You can obtain the designation if your company:

  • is very important in your field
  • has existed for at least 100 years
  • employs at least 100 employees
  • is demonstrably stable and has a good financial reputation
  • is not part of a larger group that is already Royal
  • positioning itself as a Dutch company in the market

Associations

You can obtain the designation for your association if your association:

  • is very important within your field
  • has existed for at least 100 years
  • does not disseminate political or other sensitive opinions
  • is not part of a larger entity that is already Royal

If your organization is taken over or undergoes major structural changes, you will unfortunately no longer be allowed to use the designation "Royal."

What should I do?

  • Submit an application to the mayor. Do this in the municipality where your organization is located.
  • Explain clearly why your organization deserves the designation.
  • Attach documents that support your explanation.

How long will it take?

  • The processing of your application will take at least one year.
  • You will be notified automatically if your organization receives the designation.
  • If your organization receives the designation, you will receive it along with the accompanying certificate during a special festive gathering.

Additional information

The designation "Royal" symbolizes the respect, appreciation, and trust of the King. This does not mean that the organization is a supplier or has any other relationship with the Royal Family.
