Childcare allowance

What is it?

Childcare allowance is a (partial) reimbursement of childcare costs. For example, if your children attend a daycare center, after-school care, or a childminder.

You can apply for the supplement if:

  • you and your partner work during the day
  • you are enrolled in a training program
  • you receive benefits

The amount of allowance you receive depends on your income, the number of children, and the type of childcare. You can use the Tax and Customs Administration's website to make a trial calculation to see how much childcare allowance you can receive.

How does it work?

You can receive the allowance for the following types of childcare:

  • Daycare in a nursery or daycare center.
  • After-school care for children aged 4 to 12.
  • Childminder care. You can only receive a subsidy for a childminder who is registered with a registered childminder agency.
  • Parent-participation daycare centers where a group of parents take turns looking after their own children.
  • Private babysitter. The babysitter is registered as a childminder and you pay them officially. You can arrange this through a childminding agency.
  • Daycare for children aged 2.5 to 4 years.

What should I do?
