Child Care Credit
What is it?
The Child Care Allowance is a (partial) reimbursement of child care costs. For example, if your children attend a daycare center, after-school care, or a child care provider.
You can apply for the allowance if:
- you and your partner work during the day
- you are enrolled in a program
- you receive benefits
The amount of the allowance you receive depends on your income, the number of children, and the type of childcare. You can use the Tax and Customs Administration’s online calculator at to estimate how much childcare allowance you may be eligible for.
How does it work?
You may be eligible for the subsidy for the following types of child care:
- Daycare at a nursery or daycare center.
- After-school care for children ages 4 to 12.
- Childcare provided by a child care provider. You are only eligible for a subsidy for a child care provider who is registered with a licensed child care agency.
- Parent-run daycare centers where a group of parents take turns caring for their own children.
- Your own babysitter. The babysitter is registered as a child care provider, and you pay them through official channels. You can arrange this through a child care agency.
- Daycare for children ages 2½ to 4.
