Childcare Inspection

What is it?

It is important that a childcare center, childminder’s home, or preschool is of high quality. If you run a childcare facility, your location is therefore inspected annually by an inspector from the Municipal Health Service (GGD).

How does it work?

The GGD inspector will make an unannounced visit to check whether:

  • your educational policy is followed in practice
  • there are enough staff members to accommodate the number of children in the daycare
  • the groups aren't too large
  • every employee has a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)
  • every employee has the appropriate qualifications
  • the reception facility is safe and healthy

The inspector also asks the parent committee questions. The GGD prepares a report on the inspection.

For parents

The National Childcare Register (LRK) contains information on all childcare organizations that meet the legal requirements at the time of registration. You will also find each organization’s registration number here. You may need this number when applying for childcare benefits. You can also download the GGD reports from the LRK website.

What should I do?

You must post the inspection report from the childcare regulator on your website. If you do not have a website, you must make the report available for review in a location accessible to parents and staff.
