Children's City Council

The seventh edition of the Children's municipal council in West Maas en Waal was scheduled for Thursday, November 14, with the theme 'Growing up well in West Maas en Waal!'. Unfortunately, it will not take place this year.

Three schools had signed up to participate, but due to unforeseen circumstances, two of them had to cancel. As a result, it is not feasible to hold the Children’s City Council this year.

During the week of September 2–6, students in grades 7 and 8 from elementary schools in our municipality did participate in the game Democracity. This interactive role-playing game took place in the council chamber of City Hall. During the game, the students learned about the basic principles of local government by building a city together and making decisions.
Mayor Vincent van Neerbos: "It’s a shame that we can’t hold the Children’s City Council this year. But I’m proud of the students’ engagement in the game Democracity. Initiatives like this remain important for showing our young people how they can help shape the future of our municipality."

We hope to organize another edition of the Children’s City Council next year. And we look forward to welcoming the students from our city again then.
