Young people will have a meeting place in Beneden-Leeuwen around the summer
This spring, work will begin on the construction of a temporary youth meeting place (JOP) at the pilot location designated by the municipality of West Maas en Waal in Beneden-Leeuwen. In Dreumel, the JOP at the Donjon will not go ahead for the time being.

The municipality of West Maas en Waal has designated two pilot locations for a meeting place. In Beneden-Leeuwen, they will start this spring with the realization of a temporary Youth Meeting Place (JOP). In Dreumel, the JOP at the Donjon will not go ahead for the time being. The municipality is looking at other possibilities for young people.
Pilot project in Beneden-Leeuwen gets underway
The permit has been finalized and the municipality is starting preparations for the location at De Peel in Beneden-Leeuwen. Among other things, this means that the JOP has been ordered. The municipality is installing a green buffer and the evaluation moments are being prepared. Because De Peel has been designated as a development area, the JOP will remain a temporary location for the time being. During the pilot, the municipality wants to work with young people, residents, and professionals to see how the meeting place can be a success for everyone.
Other opportunities for young people to meet in West Maas en Waal
Discussions with local residents and stakeholders in Dreumel have revealed that there is currently insufficient support for a youth recreation area on the field near the Donjon. The municipality has therefore decided to put this plan on hold for the time being. Instead of a permanent meeting place, the municipality is working with residents and young people to explore other options. This is in line with the 'Ruimte voor de Jeugd' (Space for Youth) project, which aims to give young people more space, both literally and figuratively.
The municipality supports various initiatives to encourage encounters between and with young people from West Maas en Waal. Young people, residents, associations, and foundations can submit their own ideas for young people between the ages of 11 and 23.
Alderman Rob Reuvers: "We want young people in our municipality to have a pleasant and safe place to meet. In Beneden-Leeuwen, we can get started on this, and we are happy about that. In Dreumel, we have noticed after the participation process that there are still concerns and objections. That is why we have opted for a different approach to meet the wishes and needs of young people and residents. We would like to thank everyone for their input and look forward to a successful collaboration."
