The Municipality of West Maas en Waal has designated two pilot locations for a meeting place. In Beneden-Leeuwen, they will start the realization of a temporary Youth Meeting Place (JOP) this spring. Pilot project in Beneden-Leeuwen underway
The permit has been approved, and the municipality is beginning preparations for the site at De Peel in Beneden-Leeuwen. Among other things, this means that the JOP has been ordered. The municipality is installing a green buffer, and the evaluation sessions are being prepared. Because De Peel has been designated as a development area, the JOP will remain a temporary location for the time being. During the pilot, the municipality wants to collaborate with young people, residents, and professionals to see how the meeting place can be a success for everyone.
Other meeting opportunities for young people in West Maas en Waal
Discussions with local residents and stakeholders in Dreumel that there is currently not enough support for a youth activity center on the field near the Donjon. For this reason, the municipality has decided to put this plan on hold for the time being. Instead of a permanent meeting place, the municipality is working with residents and young people to explore other options. This aligns with the “Space for Youth” project, through which they aim to give young people more space, both literally and figuratively.
To stimulate interaction, among and with young people from West Maas en Waal, the municipality supports various initiatives. Young people, residents, associations, and foundations can submit their own ideas for young people between 11 and 23 years old.
Alderman Reuvers: "We want young people in our municipality to have a pleasant and safe place to meet. In Beneden-Leeuwen , we Beneden-Leeuwen move forward with this, and we’re pleased about that. In Dreumel , following the public engagement process, Dreumel that there are still concerns and objections. That’s why we’re opting for a different approach to meet the wishes and needs of young people and residents. We thank everyone for their input and look forward to a fruitful collaboration.”
