Procurement and tendering
The municipality of West Maas en Waal purchases works, supplies, and services. The procurement procedure is called tendering. In a tender, the municipality announces that it wants to have a contract carried out and asks companies to submit a quotation. In doing so, a company must meet the requirements and conditions that are set.

Socially Responsible Contracting and Procurement (SRCP)
As a municipality, we want to take good care of our environment. We contribute to this by purchasing sustainably. We call this Socially Responsible Contracting and Procurement. With every purchase, we carefully consider the consequences for people and nature. Where possible and where the price allows, we opt for sustainable alternatives. So we also look at the price, but we take the product's lifespan into account. Sometimes a product is more expensive to buy, but it lasts much longer because, for example, individual parts can be replaced. Then you don't have to replace the entire product right away, which makes it cheaper in the long run. In this way, we contribute to important goals such as a fair society, a better climate, and less waste.
We focus on the following themes:
- Climate-
We want to reduce our carbon footprint, which is why we want the organizations we purchase from to take measures against climate change. These include reducing CO2 emissions, accelerating the energy transition, and promoting sustainable transport. In this way, we are implementing the objectives set out in the Policy Document on Energy Transition and the Circular Economy. - Environment
In addition to reducing environmental pollution, we want to improve the living environment for people, plants, and animals. That means clean air, water, and soil, and more green spaces. We want our purchases and the organizations we purchase from to contribute to this vision. When it comes to the environment, we focus on climate adaptation based on the coalition agreement. We are also building on the biodiversity plan. - Circularity
By 2050, we want and need to be fully circular. That means reusing waste and raw materials. In our purchasing, we want to make as much use as possible of circular principles, such as repairing and repurposing. - Social Return on Investment (SROI)
We want to create social value through procurement by setting social conditions. We already include SROI in various tenders. We want to continue to develop this. In addition, we want to monitor the agreements made.
As a municipality, we are keen to be inspired by (potential) suppliers offering sustainable and social solutions. If you see opportunities or would like to get in touch, please send a message to inkoop@westmaasenwaal.nl.
