Information Session: Is it just forgetfulness, or could it be dementia?

This is an old post.

The number of people with dementia is growing. The Municipality of West Maas en Waal is actively working to become a dementia-friendly municipality. It is important that people with dementia and their loved ones can participate in society for as long as possible. Therefore, the municipality is organizing a meeting about dementia.

Learn more about dementia at the meeting

It can be difficult to tell the difference between ordinary forgetfulness and dementia. Learning more about dementia can help. That is why the municipality, in collaboration with Alzheimer Nederland (Nijmegen Region branch), Sociom, and local healthcare professionals, is organizing a meeting on dementia. The title of the meeting is: Is my forgetfulness just forgetfulness, or could it be dementia?

A conversation with professionals and someone with early-stage dementia

The evening will be led by a moderator who works as a care pathway counselor for dementia. During the meeting, he will also speak with a resident from West Maas en Waal with early-stage dementia. Additionally, a geriatrician will provide an explanation about dementia. Visitors can ask their questions during the evening, which will be answered later in the program.
Alderman Rob Reuvers: "As a municipality, we believe it is important that everyone can participate, including people with dementia. That is why we are organizing this meeting. This way, residents can learn more about what dementia is and how we can deal with it together. It is a great opportunity to ask questions and share experiences. And to learn how we can create an environment where people with dementia feel supported and can continue to actively participate.”

Register for the meeting

The meeting is intended for residents, volunteers, and informal caregivers from West Maas en Waal. It will take place on Thursday, October 31, at MFA De Rosmolen, Beneden-Leeuwen. Doors open at 6:45 PM, with coffee and tea. The program starts at 7:15 PM and lasts until approximately 9:00 PM, after which there will be time for an informal chat.
