Public Information Meeting in Dreumel the Zuidelijke Waaldijk Oost Dike Reinforcement Project
On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Rivierenland Water Board will hold an informational meeting regarding the start of the exploratory phase of the Zuidelijke Waaldijk Oost (ZWO) dike reinforcement project; theDreumel dike section.

Research shows that parts of theDreumel dike sectionDreumel meet the safety standards for 2050. This does not mean that the dike is unsafe now, but it does mean that we need to look ahead. That is why the water board is launching an exploratory study to bring this 35.5-kilometer-long section of the dike up to standard. We are therefore inviting dike residents and other stakeholders to a meeting. The water board is organizing several meetings for this section of the dike. The meeting in Dreumel the second in the series. A meeting has already been held in Druten.

The Southern Waal Dike – from Weurt to Dreumel

The entire dike section is 35.5 kilometers long and begins on the west side of the Weurt lock, near the village of the same name. At Van Heemstraweg, the dike briefly crosses the municipal boundary of Nijmegen and then runs through the rural area of the municipality of Beuningen, passing through the towns of Weurt, Beuningen, and Ewijk. After passing under the A50, the dike follows the route past Winssen and Deest. Given the length of the route, it has been divided into three manageable sections: Weurt–Deest, Deest Boven-Leeuwen Dreumel.
